Contouring above the bolts increase cam clearance and decrease the amount of clearance required at the bottom of the bores on the cam side. Compstar rods will clear a .660‰Û_ lift cam on a .900‰Û_ base circle with a 4.000‰Û_ stroke crank without any modification to the rod. The bolts is what centers the caps to the rod itself and the harder material of the arp bolt requires more torque to stretch the bolt and it will definatly distort the rod.Don't try changing the bolts without resizing the rods.danz installed arp rod bolts with out getting the big end resized. but its best to take the piston and rods out of the block so you can easily heat the rod to push the old bolts out and also heat the rod and freeze the studs to put them back in. in short the heads coming off if you want arp rod bolts, the big end doesnt have to be resized tho if you dont torque them past oem spec even with the arps and also dont beat the shit out of them taking them out

When the joint sustains an external loading, there are two effects that allow the bolt to be axially loaded without sustaining further plastic deformation: 1. A significant proportion of the torsion in the bolt, typically 50% or so, disappears as soon as the tightening operation is concluded. Bolt upgrades and stroker clearance are normally additional cost options with other rods, but are standard equipment with Compstar rods. ARP 2000 bolts are used exclusively for superior tensile strength and clamping force at the critical mating joint of the rod and cap. OEM rod bolts should be replaced with stronger versions that use a higher preload. It’s important to resize the rod using the new bolts as the increased preload can affect bearing clearances. The same thing applies to main cap bolts and studs, as the increased clamping load can distort the cap and require align honing the block using the new ...
